Keep workouts interesting

Working out can often become tiresome. This is because many of us tend to fall into a workout rut by doing the same things over and over. One good way to make your workouts interesting keep boredom at bay is to come up with ways to challenge and inspire yourself.  Below are 3 good ways to do that:

Increase the Intensity

Your brisk walk around the park each morning has become like a sleep walking journey because you are getting so fit that it no longer challenges you like it once did. This is a great time to start challenging yourself with more intensity. There are a few ways to do it. Extend the distance you walk, increase the speed at which you walk, or even start including a few short sprints to get your heart rate up. You could also start walking in a different location, maybe one that is hilly so you have to work harder even if you walk the same distance.

Add in Extras

You’ve been using the same workout DVDs for a couple of months now, and you’re starting to get bored with them. Spice them up by adding in extra moves beyond what the instructor is doing. Instead of single side steps, do doubles at a faster pace. Instead of two-arm pushups, try one arm if you think you are strong enough. Set a daily challenge to exceed what the fitness instructor does on the DVDs, and of course you could always invest in some more challenging workout DVDs too. This is one BIG reason why we recommend the Beachbody videos like P90X, Insanity, and TurboFire.  They are complete DVD packages that contain many videos to change up the routines and increase the intensity.

Combine More Than One

Running on the treadmill has become boring? Grab a pair of dumbbells and start lifting them over your head and out to the sides to elevate your heart rate and work your upper body as you run. Wear ankle weights and increase the incline of the treadmill. Do modified stomach crunches while you walk, tightening all of your stomach muscles, holding for a few seconds, then releasing. Find creative ways to combine two or more exercise moves at the same time and you’ll be challenging yourself for sure.
